Man Night Comments (0)

J.D. Admissions. March 1, 2010

When I saw Erin’s post a couple weeks ago, I just knew I had to respond.

Last semester I came up with what I think will go down in history as my greatest idea ever. We called it “Man Night.” Essentially it was a chance for some of the guys in my section to get together, play cards, and eat incredibly unhealthy food. The evening would be centered around four basic things: whiskey, cigars, poker, and chicken wings. It was going to be awesome.

I started asking people if they would be interested and hoped we would be able to rally enough guys for a decent poker game. I asked my friend Dan if we could do it at his apartment, he seemed interested, we set up a facebook page, and things were a go. Then a funny thing happened. Just about every guy in my section replied that they were coming. I was excited, but a little worried that we were going to reach capacity at Dan’s place. When the day came, the place was raucous. Multiple tables of poker were being played, and pretty much everything that was not bolted down was being used as seating (including but not limited to cardboard boxes, styrofoam coolers, and random coffee tables).

In addition to the chicken wings we had ordered early in the night, a friend of mine had promised that he was making something called “Nachos Galacticos.” Whenever anyone asked him what this meant he would reply something to the effect of, “Dude, they’re nachos. From the galaxy.” Needless to say, no one had any clue what he was talking about. Sometime around midnight, when everyone was getting a second wave of hunger but had just about forgotten about the aforementioned nachos, my friend emerged from the kitchen. In his hands he was holding what can only be described as a trough of nachos. It was amazing how everyone at my poker table went from being very serious about the game to shoving cards and chips off the table to make room for the delicious bounty we were about to consume. After devouring the food we went back to playing cards, our hunger satisfied. The night ended well, and all the men went to bar review to meet up with the ladies of our section (who had been having a Ladies’ Night of their own that evening).

Dan, if you’re reading this, the next installment of Man Night needs to happen real soon.
