Want practical real-life experience as a lawyer before you graduate from law school? Are you interested in hammering out a deal? Do you want to see the inside of a courtroom? Would you like to interview clients? If your reply is yes, you need to check out the HLS Clinical Program. Over 70% of HLS students participate in at least one clinic before graduation!
With nearly 30 in-house clinics, almost 70 clinical faculty/clinical supervising attorneys, and over 60 clinical courses, students at HLS have access to a vast array of experiences through which they can strengthen their skills in preparation for public interest work. You can learn more about our clinical offerings here. And 1L students can represent clients from the day they step on campus, through our robust Student Practice Organizations, helping low-income tenants in the Tenant Advocacy Project, working with prisoners through the Prison Legal Assistance Project, arguing in criminal court through the Harvard Defenders, and more. You can find out more about our clinical student practice organizations here.
At HLS, we strongly encourage students to take part in the clinical program and students are the reason why Harvard Law School is one of the largest providers of legal services in Massachusetts, providing high-quality representation to more than 3,000 low- and moderate-income clients each year. It’s a great experience and a great endeavor!
