Law School Prom Comments (0)

For those of you nostalgic for the good old days of high school dances, don’t worry! They come around again in law school! In case it’s not enough of a throw-back for you that you’ll get a locker here, we also have law school prom. As with most things, we call it something different. It’s called the Barristers’ Ball — barrister being the British word for lawyer (kind of). This is not specific to HLS; other law schools also have Barristers’ Balls, but ours is just for 3Ls. 2Ls get a very similar party called Halfway Through Harvard (but it happens right at the beginning of the 2L second semester so that they are, indeed, halfway through Harvard), and as of recently the 1Ls get a ball of their own.

Barristers’ Ball was at The Liberty Hotel in Boston, which is a converted jail. I’m sure there’s a joke there about a bunch of soon-to-be-lawyers going to a jail for their end-of-law-school formal, but I can’t think of one right now. Regardless, we had a really good time! The DJ was really good, which I think is about as rare an admission as “that ref was really good.” It’s easy to get slammed by people who have a thing against some random artist who’s popular with everyone else; it’s not so easy to play six hours of music with no whammies.

In other special news (read: totally unconfirmed grapevine gossip), apparently Jonah Hill (the guy from Superbad) was there, but I didn’t see him. He either came after I left, or I was too busy showing off my “Bad Romance” dance moves that I perfected during final exam studying time last semester (see previous blog about same) to notice him. Someone else said Russell Brand, the rock star guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, was also there. Listen celebrities, I don’t know why the Harvard Law School prom is all of a sudden a hot spot for star sightings, but if you want to keep coming to our parties, I know some people who can get you in. Feel free to bring your friends. Particularly if your friend’s name rhymes with Pat Mamon or Trad Nitt.
