Human Rights Journal Seeks Student Writing

The Harvard Human Rights Journal is currently accepting student submissions for our 27th Volume! HHRJ typically publishes three different types of student writing: student notes (10,000-15,000 words, similar to a full journal article), recent developments (2,500-5,000 word commentaries on recent court cases or legislative developments), and book reviews (700-1,000 words). Word counts include footnotes. For a list of books that have been sent to HHRJ to be considered for reviews, please email hhrjstudentwriting at gmail.com with the subject-line “Book Review List Request”. We will accept student writing submissions on a rolling basis until August 9, 2013. HHRJ is unique in the diversity of types of pieces it publishes – we cover a vast array of human rights-related topics, so if you have already written a paper for a class that is related to human rights in any way, send it our way. Of course, we also enthusiastically welcome any piece you’d like to start from scratch. Please send your submissions to the at hhrjstudentwriting at gmail.com. And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Student Writing Editors, Jeff Bayne (jbayne at jd15.law.harvard.edu) and Tess Borden (teborden atjd14.law.harvard.edu), who are also available to work with you throughout the writing process. We look forward to hearing from you.

Important information for students traveling abroad this summer

A reminder that Harvard University requires ALL students who are traveling under university auspices (that is, receiving either credit or funding) prior to departure to register the trip in the Harvard Travel Registry; review, sign and return the appropriate Assumption of Risk and General Release form to the sponsoring organization, and obtain a Harvard Travel Assist member card and review the 24-hour emergency medical and evacuation services it provides. HLS students should also review Global Support Services’ travel risk ratings. Students who are considering travel to an area that is categorized as high risk must complete and submit a travel questionnaire and consult with Steve Taylor, Associate Director of International Safety and Security. Detailed information and the necessary forms and website links are available on the International Travel pages on the HLS website at http://www.law.harvard.edu/news/spotligh…. ILS is also holding information sessions — with important health and safety information and opportunities to meet students who have worked or studied in the region you are traveling to — on Monday, April 15 (12 p.m, Milstein West A and (repeated) on Wednesday, April 17 (12 p.m. Milstein West B). Attending one of these sessions is REQUIRED for all HLS students traveling under University auspices, and strongly recommended for any student traveling abroad this summer for work or leisure. More information on the International Travel pages (at the URL listed above) and on the ILS blog  http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/internation…).
