Calvin & Hobbes, then and now

30-Oct-05

Calvin and Hobbes has been back in the Boston Globe ever since the demise of Garfield.
My mixed feelings about it at the time has taken a dive towards the
negative, not because the strips are no good, but because the syndicate
that’s now recycling old strips seem to be doing so with little respect
for the material. For [...]

AdmissionCoach

25-Oct-05

While digging around looking for a letter of recommendation I had
once
written for someone, I stumbled across a website I had written based on
the freelance coaching and editing I’d done after college for folks
applying to college, business school, and law school. Looking at it
now, I think the advice is pretty sound, and what’s more, a lot [...]

House: Demolished

25-Oct-05

Well, the house is gone with only the basement left to mark its passing. That, and some poor laborer’s partially severed leg…

Apparently, on Friday morning, one of the laborers taking apart the
house cut his leg badly with a saw (this, I admit, is hearsay from the

Tearing Down the House

20-Oct-05

the words “Demolition Notice” on it that appeared mildly threatening.

behind us would be demolished in the upcoming week. I was somewhat
disappointed to be missing this demolition, as I had visions in my [...]

Vacation photos posted

12-Oct-05

We got our photos back from the shop
today and started the arduous process of editing and loading them to
our website. (There are only so many captions you can come up with for
“Climbing up the mountain”). With a little more elbow grease (except
that elbows don’t have much to do with computers) we should have them
all loaded [...]

Half-Marathon Results

11-Oct-05

A week ago yesterday Rachel and I completed the Sportshoe Center
Maine
Half Marathon. Coming in at 1:49:01 and 2:04:58, respectively, Rachel
and I weren’t exactly speed demons (we placed 425 and 834 out of 1296),
but I think I set a PR. While I can’t find my time in the San Francisco
Chronicle Half Marathon (it was screwed up [...]
