‘A’ is for Crocodile

My daughter was so proud when she told me this I did not point out that it actually was an ‘Alligator’

…especially since I can not tell the difference between the two.

One may live in fresh water and the other in salt water, but I’m not sure.

Besides this initial confusion, she’s been learning the letters of the alphabet quite nicely. I keep having to hold myself back from actively drilling her on them. I don’t want her to see learning as a chore. Too soon she’ll have assignments and homework and things like that. For now it should just be for the fun of it.

Here’s how I remember which large semiaquatic reptile A stands for: An Alligator’s head looks like an A. It’s narrow at the snout and gets wider towards the head. A crocodile’s head jaw is pretty narrow like a sword.

That said i just searched images on google for ‘alligators’ and ‘crocodiles’ and i can’t tell the diff.

Thanks, Ben! I liked the photos on the gatorland site.

They are particularly unattractive creatures, aren’t they?
