It is no secret that I love to swim.
Doing laps is boring and grueling but with the right mindset, I can turn it into a meditation. Mixed in is the lush sense of being surrounded by something cool, bouyant, silent and clear. There’s a “horrible wonderfulness” about swimming to me.
In March, a change in work schedule and location no longer allowed me to swim at a nearby pool during lunch. It was too far from the new office, and took too long to get there and back.
However, to my great joy, I just discovered a newly renovated smaller pool only steps away. If I stay an extra 15 minutes in the evening I can stretch my lunch break to allow enough time to get there, jump in, do my laps, and get back. I’m thrilled. Its wonderful. I’ve done it twice this week, and feel like a million bucks.
I get great inspirations and brainwaves while swimming. Yesterday I worked out a solution to a problem that had been eluding me. Because of this, could I consider swimming a part of my work day…. billable time?
Even more important than brainwaves is the personality dividend. If surveyed, most people would agree that I’m alot nicer to be around when I’ve had a few swims. I’m calmer, more easy going. And that’s what I’d call billable.
