In the morning, the Berkman Center and the School of Education hosted an Academic Symposium on Youth Meanness and Cruelty, whose goal was to discuss and describe the future research on bullying, both online and offline, and on “digital citizenship” that the Foundation will undertake, with the underlying goal to pinpoint individuals who will help “dig deep into the root causes that give rise to bullying” in the coming years. At 11 a.m., a “Youth Advocacy Bootcamp” focused on giving invited teens the skills necessary for “online advocacy”, and just before the launch a “Youth Conference” made up of community leaders learned about anti-bullying strategies from bullied students and student anti-bullying activists. Well-known for her strong LGBTQ fan base, Lady Gaga made sure that LGBTQ leaders were welcomed at a reception around noon.
