07/06/2006 Meeting Notes

Please note that all live notes are taken by attendees, and are permanently editable by all blog group members. In note-taking by multiple parties during a running event mistakes of both content and attribution are highly likely. Live Notes are not a reliable source of quotable material; all notes are (sometimes significant) on-the-fly paraphrases by the various note-takers. When possible we attempt to return to the live notes and edit them to greater accuracy, but this is not a guarantee.

Meeting notes are a best effort – comment with or blog your corrections.

  • Moment of nostalgia for this being our last ever blog group meeting in Baker House, before Berkman moves offices. Hey, we outlasted a building!
  • Stylefeeder party on Church St. at the Top10Sources HQ. Food and fun!
  • contradancing afterward with Bob!
  • Upcoming events of interest:
    • If you’re definitely going to one of these far-flung supercool events, comment and let us know so other blog group folks will know to look for friendly faces (and to potentially coordinate travel, lodging shares etc.). You can definitely expect to see many of us at the events local to Boston.
    • Alliance for Community Media, in Boston, July 5-8
    • BlogHer in San Jose, July 28-29
    • Wikimania at Berkman, August 4-6
    • Summer vacation
  • Various upcoming & potential stuff on our schedule:
    • July 13: We will need to either move blog group or cancel it this day since Berkman will be in the process of moving to our new office. edit: Erica is working on a new location so that we can hopefully catch Tracy from Platial while she is in town.
    • July 20, 27: open
    • August 3: Something takign advantage of all the fabulous Wikimania folks who will already be in town.
    • Get Colin Rhinesmith to report-back to us on the Media Giraffe conference, Democracy and Independence: Sharing News and Politics in a Connected World

    • We’re percolating at least one something to do with Second Life
    • Dan Bricklin, known for his work on VisiCalc and wikiCalc
    • Someone who can fill us in on what’s happening with China and the Internet –> Rebecca MacKinnon will be speaking with us sometime after she gets back from her current summer trip to China and other parts of Asia.
    • Shava Nerad is working with Tracy from Platial to have her present (Tracey is gone for July so we’re looking at Aug or Sept).
