Proposed agenda:

Most of these items were on the agenda for Thursday, 12/9. Only four people were at the meeting and quite a few people who couldn’t make it wanted to discuss these issues, so we didn’t talk about them.

  • No meetings at Berkman on the 23 or 30, back at Berkman on Jan. 6, 2005
  • Focus on citizen journalism based on the discussion on the list
    • Do bloggers need to pay their own way to events?

    • What about getting press credentials?
    • Should bloggers contact PR folks?
    • And more …
  • Votes, Bits, & Bytes, a free Berkman Center conference about politics and the Internet
  • Lisa’s ideas for a fun group outing
  • What else?
  • Eat

Berkman Conference on the Internet and Politics Features Sessions on Blogging

0

Votes, Bits, & Bytes, a free conference organized by the Berkman Center from Thursday, Dec. 9, through Saturday, Dec. 11, focuses on politics and the Internet. Blogging will be a major part of this conference, particularly during a number of sessions on Saturday. Many of the themes map to our blog meeting discussions, particularly those on tools and blogging as a way to cross international boundaries. Some of our blog group members are speaking, too, like Rebecca MacKinnon and David Weinberger and our founder, Dave Winer. Michael Turk and Joe Trippi will discuss the Internet and politics in light of the 2004 U.S. presidential election during the opening event Thursday night at 6 pm.

Sooz and Gregor are hosting a special dutch treat dinner at Casablanca, 40 Brattle Street, at 8:30 pm on Thursday for the conference. We are invited to join them and bring friends and family members.

And, of course, our blogging friends Wendy Koslow and Erica George and many others at the Berkman Center are working very hard on this conference.

2004/12/02 Proposed Agenda

1

The Berkman Center needs their conference room this week for an event, so we will not be able to meet where we usually do. Would anyone like to propose an alternate location? Dinner instead of a meeting? Comment below or discuss it on the list.

**Updated with the new date**: On Sunday, December 12, Critt is hosting a dinner gathering at his house for us. His family is serving ham and harvest vegetables. We are encouraged to bring food and beverages to contribute to the meal and a gag gift under $5 for a Yankee swap. Gathering begins at 4 pm. Dinner is at 6 pm. Need a ride? Want to publicize what you’re bringing? Comment below or post to the list.

Yes, family members, kids, significant others, friends with benefits, etc., are welcome, too.

Addendum 12/7: We need an accordion player, since “Nothing livens up a party like a suave, snappy dresser with an accordion!”
