Thursday Meetings at Berkman Blog

This week blog group welcomes Shava and Fish, both longtime users of and experts in the virtual world Second Life. We’ve been looking for a good introduction to just what exactly is really out there and possible in SL, and this is it! Bring your questions, and if you have a laptop with Second Life installed, bring it to follow along in-world (we will of course also be projecting onscreen).

As usual, the meeting will begin at 7pm at the Berkman Center, 23 Everett Street, and last for 60 to 90 minutes. Then there are strong odds we will continue the discussion over dinner in the Harvard Square area.

This week, there is no meeting because of Thanksgiving. You should have dinner on your own, perhaps with some family and/or friends. Thank them for their patience while you’ve been blogging.

Erica and I are thankful for all of you who have attended meetings, spoken, suggested and/or arranged guests, supported blog group, and kept the group going for almost 5 years. (Yep, that’s right. Almost 5 years. Can you believe it?)

Have a happy and safe holiday and don’t eat so much that you nap instead of blogging.

This week blog group welcomes Quilian Riano and other students from Harvard GSD. Quilian will present the architecture blog Archinect, where he is senior editor and a regular contributor. Quilian is also editor in chief of re:, the new web-based journal by and for GSD students.

(It’s really 6:30 p. j checked.) “‘Designing Copyright from the Ground Up’: Suppose we had the chance to start over again with copyright, designing it to accommodate the digital era and designing it to support the greatest public good. What would it look like? How would we manage the clash between the need for leeway with the complete and precise knowledge of use that networked usage provides?” RSVP is required, as space is limited.
