2008/03/27 Proposed Agenda: Conference reports from SXSW, NTEN, etc.

A few of our members have attended some exciting conferences in recent weeks, like SXSW and NTEN. Let’s get some updates from them.

Upcoming meetings & events of interest:

  • Thursday, March 27, & Friday, March 28: SpamCon at MIT
  • Friday, March 28, & Saturday, March 30: Boston First: a high school robotics competition is at BU’s Agganis Arena.
  • April 3 meeting: Meryl Libbey & Rich Cowan on publicizing their blog on Oppenheimer and the H-bomb (and associated book)
  • April 10: Pecha Kucha, with social dinner beforehand & live blogging/tweeting during! Led by our own Brett Stilwell.
  • April 11: BetaHouse Turns 1!
  • April 17: Our own Jared Dunn on his new project, LocalProgress.org
  • April 24: ROFLCON and the Laughing Squid are having a ROFLCON kickoff party at the Asgard on Mass Ave in Central Square. Let’s join them for some networking with online comic artists. RSVP required.
  • May 1: The folks from Babbledog return with a major update
  • Registration now open for the Berkman @10 conference & gala in May!

2008/03/20 Proposed Agenda: Lisa Stone at 6 p in Austin West Classroom

We’re moving the meeting to 6 p to attend a talk by Lisa Stone, cofounder of BlogHer, in Austin West Classroom in Austin Hall at Harvard Law School—a special Berkman@10 event. She will focus on the habits of adult women online: “Today, thanks to the Internet and to the new social media tools embraced by female consumers, American women online represent stunning economic and political power — and a rapidly morphing target.”

Some folks will go for dinner after the talk. Others are heading to the contradance.

The Boston Weblogger Meetup Group is attending and planning to go to Cambridge Common afterward.

2008.03.13 Proposed Agenda - Jon Garfunkel on Faceted Blog Archiving

Jon Garfunkel will talk to us about the challenges of good, usable blog archives. He switched his archive format recently in an attempt to provide better access to the material. As well as sharing his experience with his weblog, he will talk about archives on other sites. More info at his post on faceted navigation of blog archives. Next week (3/20), we’re moving the meeting to 6 p to attend a talk by Lisa Stone, cofounder of BlogHer.

2008.03.06 Proposed Agenda - Somerville Voices

This week, Barry Rafkind and other folks from Somerville Voices will join us talk about what they’re doing. Somerville Voices is a new collaborative news & features blog for Somerville, and they’d really love input from blog group folks, particularly those of us who are or have been involved in other placeblog projects.
