We must try though, really hard, to question the assumption that with unrestrained file-sharing there would be no compensation unless it was imposed.

We really must rule that out as a blindspot utterly, and with full justification.

Otherwise we&#039;re in danger of assuming that there is no demand for art. This is because demand can&#039;t help but compensate supply - even if the compensation is non-financial.

Just because the mechanisms by which this compensation will naturally occur (without intervention) may be hard to envisage, doesn&#039;t mean we should wring our hands and worry about what intervention should occur.</description>
