Happy New Country

Changes at Whitehouse.gov are the top item on Techmeme.

My tweets watching The Event:

Say Amen.
search isn’t working too well at http://whitehouse.gov
This may be the greatest speech ever given about the United States.
“We are willing to extend a hand if you will unclench your fist.” What is this form of homiletics called? “This, then that…”
“the lines of tribe will soon dissolve…” whoa.
“We reject as false the distinction between our safety and our ideals.” Another great one-liner.
“the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply.” Well put. Hope it’s even partly true.
Wow. Check out http://whitehouse.gov. Change has come. Here’s the blog: http://tinyurl.com/6tdmhy
World’s greatest orator flubs the oath. O well. It’s cool. Roberts didn’t look like a teleprompter, I guess.
My attorney, to my right, says “It’s the end of an error.”
We’ll all remember where we were for this. The place is Together.
Those people have faith. Which he called “The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen.” In this case, next 8 years.
The view up the mall… Stunning.

Not sure if that beats blogging it, but it sure was easier.

And I’m still glowing, three hours later.

[Later…] Apparently I topped the retweet radar list for a moment there. And Twitter itself peaked without pique.

  1. Just for the record, it was Chief Justice Roberts who flubbed the oath. Our new president noticed it and gave him a chance to fix it.

(And thanks for the tweets, Doc.)

  2. Quite a day, to be sure. Also, I tweeted at you, but because unanswered questions bother me — the type of homiletics you’re referring to I believe is dialectic.

  3. The only point I really disagreed with was the mention of powering our cars… we really need to give up that love affair… the car is a gold-digger.

  4. Wonderful day Doc. Yer man spoke to the world there, and we heard him loud and clear in London.

  5. […] end this historic day, here is some Obama insight from my men Cush and Doc Searls and the outrageous Many […]

  6. I could hardly see Roberts. How tall is he? For that matter, how tall is Obama? Not an easy number to find. For me right now, anyway.

  7. I probably haven’t looked at the full text of the oath in years but it was one of those random things I memorized when I worked on the Hill and it just sounded wrong the moment he said it. I felt sorry for Roberts. I think even he realized he forgot the word ‘faithfully’ and sort of threw it in at the end. Oh well, such is life.

  8. Obama is about 6′ 1/2″ inches. Michelle is about 5’10” they say but when she wears heels she is taller than Obama.

  9. The oath that Biden took was the military officer oath (found myself reciting it with him – old habits die hard):

“I ______ do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.”

President Obama’s oath was: “I _______ do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Obviously, Obama had the oath memorized; looked like Roberts did not. Funny on how everyone was focused on hearing Obama’s middle name said aloud – and it was almost lost in the fumbling.

  10. What’s the 160 million dollar fuss all about? Politics is and always will be the systematic organization of hatreds. Isn’t it time we glean higher and set our sights on a new century without passports, visas and borders?

This land is NOT my land, this is Not your land, this land is Homeland – the very stuff Fatherlands and Motherlands are made of.
