Dana, WWDC didn't produce what I described, but I didn't expect it this soon, either.

The main point stands, however. I cannot believe that Apple will sit still and tolerate a world contained in 1080p.

BTW, over the weekend I talked with a producer who said the most innovative movie-makers are aiming toward not only higher resolutions but higher frame rates as well.

William, in the short run, yes. In the longer run, we trade in Cabletown for Internetworld.

Jim, Apple won't dodge that ball, any more than they dodged a ball with the music recording industry. Instead they'll pose a new distro system that will not only outperform the old one revenue-wise, but look a lot better and be a lot easier to use.

BTW, to other commenters: I'm not advocating this, just predicting it.

I read a recent article on the Wrap about the major studios and how they earn about ten times the revenue from TV as compared to movies. This came on the heals of an Atlantic article explaining the tight revenue model between the cable company and HBO and why television viewers will never see HBO Go sold separately. It seems there is a revenue model here that is like a vice-grip. How will Apple dodge that ball?
