Robert McGowan, a trained hypnotherapist from Scotland, believes that more than 50 species, from horses to dogs and cats are receptive to hypnosis. In fact, he uses hypnosis in animal therapy. I think its quite difficult to tell, if an animal is answering an conditioned response or if it is a hypnotic reaction. Although published quite a long time ago one of the best discussions on this subject may be found in the book by Franz Andreas Völgyesi (1963): “Hypnose bei Mensch und Tier”. I think there is also an english edition of this book.
