<a></a>

While networking is important, the real purpose of a convention of this kind is to showcase the new candidate and messages through the media over a several day period -- preferably in a spirit of unity -- which is the case this time unlike many past Democratic conventions. Ie, it is an opportunity to substantially impact perceptions and is the price to pay for providing the American public with an opportunity to view the speeches of Clinton, Carter, etc. and others for the next few nights. Yes, it might be possible to do this in a shorter time frame but not substantially less, and it can be argued it is far better to amortize over several days. Also -- what is wrong with a little stimulus to the economy? God knows it is necessary as the impact of tax cuts and other stimulus winds down.

Those last 3 paragraphs are enough to make a Mother weep. Remind Norma Yvonne that there is no "Return even if damaged" policy.
