I'd probably be more impressed if you happened to notice that the photo is of a Royal Army enlisted soldier. Not a GI or Marine!

Speak to an Iraqi. Many of the kidnappings of foreigners for 15 minutes of airtime on Arab networks, kidnappings of Iraqis for profit, terror attacks on teachers, politicians and other Iraqi professionals, and car bomb and IED attacks are developed, refined and implemented out of Fallujah with financing from parts known and unknown.

Right now Fallujah is a nexus of former Baathists, foreign fighters streaming into Fallujah from Syria, Iraqi insurgents and harcore Islamists. They recently boasted about having several blocks worth of parked cars that were rigged to be car bombs in case you missed that latest threat on the Arab networks.

Also in case you missed it, Al Jazeera ran a virtual recruiting message for attacks on American and Iraqi forces over the weekend. To my surprise, they actually offered this in English and in Arabic, instead of just the usual fluff pieces that are only meant to be translated in English. They quoted 20 or so Iraqi scholars who adovcated attacks on Americans, backed it up with distorted religious validation, and issued a religious edict under pain of death barring cooperation with the American forces.

I would like to say I am as much against war as everyone on this thread, but I do not think that is the case. I would be shocked if any of you actually admitted that war under any circumstances was not an answer to any threats. That is simply living in a fantasy world.

Right now, the threats coming out of Fallujah are real. They are not make believe, not an attempt to get more oil, not an attempt to subjucate either a religion or a race. The actions intiated inside Fallujah are wrecking havoc with average Iraqi citizens. And I am not alone, with either Americans or Iraqis, who hope that Fallujah ceases to be an insurgent/terrorist/enemy center of operations.

I would hope that during wartime any and all criticism would be both respectful and responsible, but that is not the case.

Don,

If I can ask, what are your terms for victory and timeframe?

I ask because I think it is helpful to put out a measurable line and evaluate against that.

Obviously, the "mission accomplished" scene is one example. Who expected 1000 american dead at this point? Do you expect 2000 american dead, 200,000 iraqi dead and democracy in 4 years? Would 4000 american dead, 400,000 iraqi dead and a simmering civil war be a failure?

Best,
Zane

> I await the American victory over the enemy. I won't have
> to wait much longer...

That's where you are fooling yourself Don. If we defeat this enemy, the Bush administration will just move on to the next enemy.

Under this administration, War is Peace.

Ken

P.S. This past election resolved nothing.

In case you hadn't noticed, America just gave the, "green light" to the President to deal with the enemy as he sees fit.

You're trying to bring up the same arguments we just resolved in the recent election. That won't work.
