Press: “Burns’ Film, Other Projects, to Receive Federal Grants”

“A new film by Ric Burns on the Pilgrims’ migration to New England and the publication of the first facsimile edition of Stravinsky’s original scores for his 1923 ballet ‘Les Noces’ are among the projects that will benefit from $39 million in grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the endowment announced on Thursday.

“The 244 humanities projects selected for the grants include the publication of the collected papers of Albert Einstein, Jonathan Edwards, and Emma Goldman; the excavation of the ancient Olmec city of La Venta in Mexico; and a study of the influence of California’s agricultural and fishing industries on John Steinbeck’s writing.

“The funding will also support the Digital Public Library of America, which seeks to digitize and make available online the country’s libraries and archives.

“‘The endowment hopes to increase the access of all citizens to humanity’s great stories, triumphs, and ideas,’ said Jim Leach, the endowment’s chairman, ‘and foster a love of lifelong learning and discovery.’”
