This coming February, Nate Hill (Chattanooga Public Library) and SJ Klein (Wikipedia) from the DPLA will host a pre-conference hackfest as well as present during the Code4Lib Conference in Chicago.
Code4Lib describes itself as a “volunteer-driven collective of hackers, designers, architects, curators, catalogers, artists and instigators from around the world, who largely work for and with libraries, archives and museums on technology “stuff.”” While the collective began in 2003 as an email list, Code4Lib has now evolved into an annual conference.
This year, the conference will take place in Chicago from February 11th to the 14th.
On Monday, February 11, the DPLA will host a brief afternoon hackfest, “DPLA Intro/Hacking”,
This past November, Nate Hill led a DPLA Hackfest, “Appfest”, in the new collaboration and creative space at the Chattanooga Public Library. At this event, many apps for the DPLA were envisioned and created by collaborators from all over the country. See the press highlights from the event.
The following day, Tuesday February 12, Hill and Klein will present “Hacking the DPLA”,
From the description, “Come learn what we are doing, how to contribute or hack the DPLA roadmap, and how you (or your favorite institution) can draw from and publish through it. Larger institutions can join as a (content or service) hub, helping to aggregate and share metadata and services from across their {region, field, archive-type}. We will discuss current challenges and possibilities (UI and API suggestions wanted!), apps being built on the platform, and related digitization efforts.” (view more)
