“Innovative Interfaces Inc. today announced a new development initiative that will integrate access to theDigital Public Library of America (DPLA) into its Encore Synergy platform.
“Scheduled for initial operation in April, 2013, DPLA will offer free online access to books, pamphlets, periodicals, manuscripts, digital text, and audiovisual materials aggregated from participating universities, public libraries, and other organizations throughout the United States. Innovative plans to use the open DPLA discovery framework to provide seamless, single-search access to these materials via the Encore Synergy platform.
“The DPLA is designed as a public-private initiative, where we view open APIs, open code, open content, and open metadata as essential to the future of libraries, archives, and museums,” John Palfrey, president of the Board of Directors of the DPLA, explained in a press announcement. “We strongly encourage companies to follow the lead of Innovative Interfaces to make use of these open resources, in the public interest.”
“Separately, the company announced today that its Decision Center collection management solution has been implemented at several public and academic libraries, including Jefferson County Public Library(CO), Tulsa City-County Library (OK), and University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
“Working as an integrated part of Innovative’s Millennium ILS or Sierra Services, Platform Decision Center utilizes Innovative’s Dynamic Library Intelligence system to consider data including holds, circulation, expenditures, transit times, item locations, and patron demographics. Using that information, it offers guidance for optimizing collections in a way that best reflects community demand and usage.”
