[DPLA West] Agenda

The Internet Archive is hosting a reception and tour of its physical archive in Richmond, CA for DPLA West participants on the evening of April 26, 2012 (the night before DPLA West). Participants are asked to meet in one of the following places:

  • BART: Richmond Station, 1700 Nevin Avenue, Richmond, CA at 5:45 PM
    Participants will be met by representatives of the Internet Archive and shuttled to the physical archive.
  • Physical Archive, 2512 Florida Avenue, Richmond, CA at 6:00 PM
    Participants coming from the Richmond area are asked to meet at the Physical Archive.

The tour and reception will take approximately one hour; shuttle service to the Richmond BART station will be offered after the tour.

April 27, 2012

8:00 AM: Registration & Breakfast | Steering Committee Meeting
The Steering Committee will hold a short meeting from 8:00-8:45 AM in the Board Room of the Internet Archive. This meeting is open to the public; those who plan to attend are asked to arrive at the Internet Archive at 7:45 AM to pick up materials.

Speakers from a number of fields, backgrounds, and approaches will share their visions for the DPLA and discuss the potential the DPLA has for their communities.

11:00 AM: Building the DPLA (video)
Representatives from each workstream will present the work that’s been accomplished since the DPLA launch in October 2012, map the landscape of work remaining to be done, and share ways in which individuals and organizations can get involved.

12:00 PM: Lunch

1:30 PM: From Beta Sprint to Alpha Release: The DPLA Platform, Phase I (video)
In this interactive session, the technical development team will introduce the first version of the DPLA platform and invite comments and questions from participants.

2:15 PM: Digital Lending and eBooks (video)
The DPLA intends to include not only public domain content, but also the rich world of born  digital and in-copyright materials. This session with examine emerging models and strategies for providing access to in-copyright digital content.

3:45 PM: Government, Democracy, and the DPLA: The Dynamics of Open Government Data (video)
This session will explore possible interactions between the DPLA and federal data, records, and collections. How might the DPLA of the future change government? How best can government materials be part of the DPLA?
