Workstream conveners are responsible for the recruitment of a broad range of workstream members and the identification of expert participants for DPLA activities over the next two years.

Ginnie Cooper

Chief Librarian, District of Columbia Public Library
In July 2006, Ginnie Cooper joined the District of Columbia Public Library as Chief Librarian. The Library Board hired her to transform DCPL. A librarian since 1970, Cooper is a past president of the Public Library Association and a recipient of the Charlie Robinson Award which recognizes a public library director who is a risk-taker, an innovator and an agent for change. She believes in the power of public libraries to make a difference in the lives of individuals and in communities.

Robert Darnton

Robert DarntonCarl H. Pforzheimer University Professor and Director of the Harvard University Library
Robert Darnton completed an AB at Harvard and a doctorate at Oxford. After a short stint as a newspaper reporter, he was a junior fellow at Harvard, then taught history at Princeton until 2007, when he came to Harvard as director of the university library. Of his recent books, the one most likely to interest readers concerned with the DPLA is “The Case for Books: Past, Present, and Future.”

Susan Hildreth

Director of the Institute for Museum and Library Services
On January 19, 2011, President Obama appointed Susan Hildreth to be director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The nomination to her new post was confirmed by the US Senate by unanimous consent on December 22, 2010. Hildreth is the former city librarian of Seattle, where she managed the Seattle Public Library, which includes the world-renowned Central Library, 26 new and expanded branches, and a Mobile Services division.

Andrew McLaughlin

Executive Director, Civic Commons & Lecturer in Law, Stanford Law School
Andrew McLaughlin is Executive Director of Civic Commons, and a Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School, teaching a course on freedom of speech in the Internet age. Previously, Andrew served on President Obama’s White House staff as Deputy Chief Technology Officer of the U.S.; as a member of the Obama-Biden transition team; as Director of Global Public Policy at Google; and as Vice President and Chief Policy Officer of ICANN, the Internet’s technical coordinating organization.

Maureen Sullivan

Educator, consultant and American Library Association President-elect
Maureen Sullivan is a widely recognized leader, educator and consultant in the library profession. She is a professor of practice in the Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions PhD program at Simmons College and is on the faculty of the Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is the current president-elect of the American Library Association.
