New federal guidelines coming out of the DoJ this morning. According to early reports, “prosecutors will be told it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state laws.” For more information, see the Huffington Post or WaPo.
Update 10/20: Check out the text of the DoJ memo here, and differing views of the new policy over at the NYTimes.

Interesting Post.President Obama has taken a new step. But would that do only good? Use of marijuana for medical purposes is good but what if that turns to be for personal use?

So this is basically a guideline saying that it is a waste of time to arrest people who are abiding by state laws? The key part of that quote that stuck me is “guideline”. The question now becomes, when will the feds make exceptions to this guideline and pursue justice? My guess is when it gets out of hand like for example in Los Angeles where there are like 200 something dispensaries. If this number hits 500 maybe they will have to take action?
