Environmental Law Policy Fellow at Harvard Law School

The Environmental Law Program’s Policy Initiative at Harvard University seeks an Environmental Policy Fellow to perform diverse research and stakeholder engagement activities. S/he will work in close collaboration with the Policy Director and student Research Assistants to advance rigorous legal analyses and innovative policy proposals on cutting-edge environmental issues.

Reporting to the Policy Director of the Environmental Law Program, the Environmental Policy Fellow will be tasked with: researching and writing on salient legal issues; coordinating research activities with student Research Assistants and outside partners; crafting outreach and information dissemination strategies including the use of social media; editing written and online materials to establish common voice; and developing and managing environmental policy events on campus and on Capitol Hill.  The Environmental Policy Fellow may also work with the Harvard Environmental Law Society to prepare for the spring 2014 national Environmental Law Society conference.  This conference will have an environmental justice theme.

Based on the fast-paced and changing needs of the Policy Initiative, the Environmental Policy Fellow may be called upon for other tasks at short notice. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.  Travel opportunities may arise.

The right candidate can operate independently in a work environment of multiple priorities, and also works well as the member of a team.  S/he anticipates and resolves problems, and meets tight deadlines.  A sense of humor is a plus.

J.D. degree (within the last 3 yrs) required.  At least 2 years practicing law, with a strong preference for experience in energy, environmental, and/or administrative law.  Superior research, writing, editing and proofreading skills required, as are excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to exercise judgment and discretion.

The Environmental Policy Initiative provides an institutional bridge between Harvard Law School and environmental decision makers in Washington, DC, across our nation, and around the globe.  The work of the Policy Initiative is driven by our sense of the most pressing environmental issues where innovative legal guidance is badly needed.  We provide timely legal research and practical policy recommendations to inform debate.  We also translate our work into practical, accessible tools that policymakers can take up and use right away.  The Environmental Policy Initiative works closely with environmental law faculty at Harvard and the Emmett Environmental Law & Policy Clinic, and develops strategic partnerships with other experts to design, implement, and disseminate our projects and products.  More information may be found at  http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/environment….
