I'm Dave... with the exclamation point... Also Dave G. if that isn't confusing as well! I was the poster who was lamenting my school decision... I also happen to be a frequent reader, but seldom responder. However, I do blog.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I know all to well of the "fools gold" since my wife is an attorney who's been through the wringer on that one... but I'm (yes, this naive!) actually an older, returning student who is primarily interested in the education... so I think I'm going to let that (rather than my job prospects) make the final decision. I've done my faculty research, and there's a particular faculty member whose publications really interest me, and I've started an e-mail correspondence with them. I think that's going to mean far more to me in the long run than either reputation *or* debt. So I'm holding off until I hear from one last school, but I think my decision is pretty well cast...

Nope. Still the wrong Dave. Your frequent commenter has not yet made the leap into blogdom.

Hi, "Dave" Dave. I always check to see if there's an exclamation point before I respond, but I admit it can be hard to keep all of us separate in my mind. I only let my Mother call me "Dave," instead of "David," and she never leaves Comments, so that helps a bit.
I just checked out the Grossman article and it is quite good. Of course, there is a part of me that says "if a prospective law student doesn't pay attention to all the disclaimers -- and couldn't figure out for himself or herself the risks of just using the U.S.News Rankings, or any similar system of ranking -- I don't want her or him to be my counselor." Maybe we should force people to grow up before we let them go to law school or become lawyer or law professors. That would sure eliminate the excess lawyer problem in the USA.
