With the convention going on in NYC, I’ve been checking madcap
to deregulate those ill-conceived, conventional haiku rules: haiku do not have to
be in 5-7-5 form with 17 syllables. The best haiku in English usually contain 10
to 14 syllables, and contrast two images. So, come on, Madeleine, loosen up! (I bet
she’s never heard that line before.)
I’d be in nudge heaven, if I could also get our popular cyber comic to popularize the
term senryu — “a short poem similar in structure to haiku but featuring ironic, humorous
and/or coarse observations on human nature [glossary].

Mad’s still counting
five-seven-five
Republicans
and syllables –
fewer is better
