		<description>As a NY EYE-talian American living in California, I grew up with my dad&#039;s goombahs - relatives and close male friends who would visit, drink wine and play pinochle or canasta.  The term was always used with a slap on the back, a warm hand shake and a hug.Didn&#039;t Julius LaRosa sing &quot;Hey, Compare&quot;.  We used goombah as a term of friendship, inclusion, and affection.  I have a goombah here on the West Coast,  my high school friend Paul Salvo.  The connection is as strong as blood - this Eye talian business......lucky me.  Judge Hoos is not Italian; goombah is not the same as WOP, trust me. It may be used kiddingly, but not to put someone down.  My upbringing was different from his - oh yeah.</description>
