Any member of the Harvard community can create a blog. The software is setup to allow anyone with an email that ends in harvard.eduhbs.edu, or radcliffe.edu to create a blog. If you don’t have such an email address and think of yourself as a member of the Harvard community, let us know.

Who is responsible for this site?

What are the rules for using the site?

See the Terms of Use.

How do I write on my blog?

See the Getting Started Guide for more information on getting started running a blog on our server.

What blog software is the server running?

This server is running WordPress Mu, the multi-user version of the popular WordPress blogging platform.

How do I edit my blog’s theme?

You cannot edit your own theme. You must instead use one of the many themes provided on the server.

We plan on adding the ability to edit your own theme at some future point. Unfortunately, WordPress Mu makes it difficult to do so in a secure way, so it will take some work on our part. We decided to go ahead and launch the new server without customizable themes so that folks struggling with the old server could get onto a fast, reliable server now while we work on adding features like customizable features in the background.

My pages are not showing up in my navigation / are not getting urls. What’s going on?

You have to ‘publish’ a page to get it to show up in the navigation and to get wordpress to assign it a url.

Can I embed video, audio, PDFs, or other media on my blog?

No. For the time being, because of security concerns, you cannot embed media. You can upload these media to a post and put a link to the movie, song, etc. in the post body.
