The Interested Observer

This is me

This is meant to be a blog about the things that interest and inspire me. The problem is, I have a lot of interests. They include China, intellectual property, citizen journalism and international law, particularly human rights law. It also includes fashion, music, design, film and random bits of flair that capture my interest if only for a moment. I would love to put it into some category, but I can’t. It’s just here, growing wild.

What I do: I’m an old journalist and a new lawyer. I also play piano and love to make things. At the moment, it’s painting. And cooking all the recipes in my grandmother’s recipe book. She uses a lot of “vintage ingredients,” like sour salt.

What I do when I’m not doing anything: checking e-mail, playing piano, downloading free iphone apps, photography, making collage and mixed media art projects, running away to the beach, learning new and necessary languages. I can read an instruction manual in Spanish and hail a cab in Chinese.

Please ask me about the projects I worked on at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, my summer at the China Intellectual Property Summer Institute; and my trip to Tibet, the summer I worked at MTV News or my career as a technology journalist in Boston, New York and Atlanta.
