The Technical University of Munich Is Not a Terror School – 12
“John sits there now and says that he is bored. He does not know what to do with himself and his energy. He says his mother cries a lot. His father had a serious talk with him – his father, who used to work as a store detective at Woolworth’s, now sits around the house all day. No one needs him anymore.
“No one needs any of them – his father, his uncle, his older brother. At least no German employer needs them. The men stay at home, or they go to the local cafe. Instead of filling their old roles, they just fill out football betting sheets now. They put their money on two important Turkish teams.”

Die Technische Universität München ist keine Terrorschule – 12
„Da sitzt er nun und sagt, dass er sich langweile. Nicht wisse, wohin mit sich und seiner Energie. Die Mutter, sagt er, weine viel, der Vater habe ein ernstes Wort mit ihm gesprochen – der Vater, der früher als Kaufhausdetektiv durch die Regalreihen bei Woolworth schlich. Heute sitzt er tagelang zu Hause. Es braucht ihn niemand mehr.
Niemand braucht sie noch, die Väter und Onkel und großen Brüder, jedenfalls kein deutscher Arbeitgeber. Die Männer bleiben zu Hause. Oder sie gehen ins Café. Anstelle ihrer alten Rolle füllen sie nun Fußball-Wettscheine aus. Setzen auf Fenerbahçe oder Galatasaray.“
