Exploitation at German Universities, but Not, Surely Not, at the Technical University of Munich – 11
”Thomas Piesbergen: ‘If this practice catches on everywhere in the German university system, then no permanent researchers will ever be hired, because university administrators will think that this practice works, that it’s all right, and that they can always hire people with new master’s or doctor’s degrees as one-euro workers, when these people can’t find any other job.’
“Commentary: These students don’t want that kind of situation to develop. Here they are planning an ‘award’ for their university president, a certificate in recognition of a system that educated them for free and that now uses one-euro employees to carry out research at the university. When they tried to present the ‘award,’ they were thrown out of the president’s outer office . . . and so much for their struggle for justice.
“Student: ‘It’s all about the question: are we going to accept this situation? The university couldn’t go on doing this if everybody said: I’ve completed my education, and I don’t need to go on working without being paid’.”

„Thomas Piesbergen: ‚Wenn das jetzt einreißt an den Universitäten, dass eigentlich überhaupt keine wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter mehr eingestellt werden, weil die merken natürlich, ja es geht auch so, man kann ja immer die Leute, die frisch dann ihren Magister oder ihren Doktor haben als Ein-Euro-Kraft einstellen, wenn die keinen Job finden.’
Diese Studenten wollen genau das nicht. Sie wollen ihrer Präsidentin heute ein Zertifikat verleihen. Dafür, dass sie für lau unterrichtet werden und dass Ein-Euro-Jobber an ihren Instituten forschen. Schon aus dem Vorzimmer werden sie rausfliegen … Kampfeswille hin oder her.
Studentin: ‚Es geht schon darum: Nimmt man das hin? Also wenn jetzt alle sagen würden: Ich bin ausgebildet, ich brauch nicht mehr ohne Bezahlung zu arbeiten, würde auch diese Praxis sozusagen nicht durchgesetzt werden’.”
