Third Series: “Professor Do-Nothing”? At the Technical University of Munich? – 4

“More than fifty applicants responded to the fake want-ad that the authors placed in a newspaper. Forty-four of those applicants were professors who, as German civil servants, earn an average yearly salary of 71,500 euros ($97,570) and, when they retire, will receive a pension that is seventy percent of their net salary in their last year of employment. Even the president of a German technical college was among the applicants. All of them were prepared to violate the German civil service law that allows university instructors to work only one day a week at an outside job. Some of the applicants even offered additional time, saying that during the semester vacations, that could devote ‘one hundred percent’ of their time to their work outside the university.”

Dritte Serie: Professor Untat? An der Technischen Universität München? – 4

„Mehr als 50 Bewerber meldeten sich auf die fingierte Anzeige, 44 davon Professoren, die im Durchschnitt 71.500 Euro jährlich verdienen und als Pension 70 Prozent der Nettobezüge aus den letzten Berufsjahren bekommen. Auch der Präsident einer Fachhochschule war dabei. Sie alle waren bereit, gegen das Beamtenrecht zu verstoßen, das Hochschullehrer in der Regel einen Tag pro Woche für Nebentätigkeiten gestattet. Einige der Bewerber boten mehr Zeit an, die Semesterferien könne man gar „zu hundert Prozent“ dem außeruniversitären Engagement widmen.”
