The vagueness of applicable standards diverts the degree-granting process into the area of arbitrary evaluation. For this reason, rules for the awarding of doctorates should regulate what the precise relationship is between written work and oral examination in the final evaluation of the doctoral thesis.

At its current ranking, the Technical University of Munich is not so very far behind many universities in, for example, East Asia. Diese Vagheit der maßgeblichen Normen verleitet zu willkürlichen Beurteilungen. Deshalb sollten Promotionsordnungen regeln, in welchem konkreten Verhältnis schriftliche Arbeit und mündliche Prüfung in die endgültige Beurteilung der Dissertation eingehen.
