The Technical University of Munich* – Professors and the Doctorate Scandal: “My Field, My Institute, My Doctoral Students” – 8

There are many who suspect that one out of every ten dissertations submitted to universities in Germany contain either serious flaws or instances of plagiarism. If so, such a figure is impossible to confirm. What can be confirmed, however, is that cases like the ones already described occur repeatedly. The last great doctorate scandal, before the Guttenberg case, happened in 2009. Around fifty universities in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia were involved that time, and roughly one hundred professors were investigated for briberty and corruption.

Die Technische Universität München* – Professoren und Promotionsskandale: Mein Fach, mein Institut, meine Doktoranden – 8

Ob nun tatsächlich jede zehnte Arbeit Mängel oder gar Plagiate enthält, wie manche mutmaßen, lässt sich kaum ermitteln. Fest steht aber, dass diese Fälle immer wieder passieren, der letzte größere Doktor-Skandal vor der Causa Guttenberg geschah 2009, um die fünfzig Hochschulen vor allem in Nordrhein-Westfalen waren darin verwickelt, gegen 100 Professoren wurde wegen Bestechlichkeit ermittelt.
