Lead, Kindly Light

Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see The distant scene; One step enough for me.

Four Mostly Unrelated Thoughts

gei wo da sheng di shuo “wo ai ni” gei wo da sheng di shuo “sa rang hae” yeah

~ Rain and Lee Hom, “Wan Mei De Hu Dong.” I just realized yesterday for the first time, after having listened to this song for an entire year, that “sa rang hae” is the Korean version of “wo ai ni.” Now that I know Rain is a Korean pop star, this all makes sense.

…lui cheng de qian hou duo yu zhi wei yu jian ni…

~ Lee Hom, “Xin Zhong De Ri Yue,” which translates to ‘All the extra portions of beginnings and endings of my travels are meant for me to meet you.’

I’d like to believe this is true.

The other day while on gchat with a friend, I accidentally said “I’ll see it when I believe it.” It was an accidental slip of the tongue, of course, but I also realized later that there is probably some truth to that phrase, at least in some cases, is true.

The power of suggestion from a credible source can be unbelievably persuasive and potent in its ability to devolve belief into doubt, and sour love into curdles of resentment. Exercise that power with care.

Yup.

DC Dinner

Filed under: Random — graingergirl at 8:45 pm on Tuesday, July 8, 2008

Once a week, every week. Porter Exchange, after a morning of bar classes and an afternoon in the library.

There are only five tables total, and we always sit at the same one.
I invariably order the “Healthy tofu bowl” (with delicious soft carrots, green beans, other vegetables and six pieces of fried tofu in brown sauce over delicious rice) at Porter Exchange. DCSK dodges around the menu a bit, but mostly ends up with some sort of curry thing.

We sit, we chat, we argue from time to time. The same thing happens every single week.

It’s good to have SK around. Sure makes the bar season fly by faster.

Political Overload

This evening as I was making dinner, I flipped the television on. I’m not used to watching the telly, as I made it through most of college and law school without having one in my room [and when I did, it always belonged to a roommate]. But once in a while now, I like to sit down and see what’s going on.

I had to chuckle a bit at what I encountered.

See Hilary Clinton ad

See Barack Obama ad

See John Edwards ad.

Literally three in a row, just like that. I guess it means the New Hampshire primaries are coming up soon!

On the Lighter Side

I feel like maybe I should not post deep and brooding thoughts all the time. So – to lighten things up a bit, I offer a series of lawyer jokes. Pardon me if you’ve heard them before; and I hope you get a laugh or two. I can poke fun at my own profession – I don’t mind. :)

Q: What’s the difference between a lawyer lying dead on the road and roadkill?

A: There are skid marks in front of the roadkill.

Q: Do you know how to save a drowning lawyer?

A: No? Good!

Q: How many lawyers does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: None. They like to keep their clients in the dark.

Q: Why does California have the most attorneys, and New Jersey have the most toxic waste dumps?

A: New Jersey got first pick.

Q: How many lawyer jokes are there?

A: Three. The rest are true.

In all seriousness, I think that law is a noble profession – at least, in most cases, it is. A few rotten apples are out there, but truth be told – I’ve only met a couple of them, but the rest of the lawyers I know are people of strong work ethic, incredible intelligence, dedication to their profession, and they are men and women of integrity. Really. So – laughs aside, I salute my present and future brothers and sisters of the bar – they may make fun of us, but they need us, and when we do our work well, we can really make a difference.
