There was this videogame called Project Entropia where someone bought an island for around $20,000! Also I know that companies sell stuff through Second Life and class courses from universities are beginning to be taught there.

It certainly is a strange world we're living in!

[...] Move over, Duran Duran. Step aside, Mark Warner. The newest real-world individual to adopt an avatar and speak to the virtual world of Second Life will be none other than the Honorable Richard Posner, whom I describe to my civil procedure students as the most influential American judge not on the Supreme Court since Learned Hand. I have been a bit of a Second Life skeptic in the past, but this could be a hoot (as we sometimes say here in Minnesota). On the other hand, a federal judge who blogs is perhaps the most likely to step into the metaverse as well.
[...] I’ve posted here and there (mostly there) about the 3D virtual world Second Life. I’ve tried spending some online time there, creating an avatar and even trying to find my way around Second Life Library 2.0, but each time I’ve given up in frustration. Maybe I’ve reached the limit of my technical horizon, and I’m too old to get the hang of extending my life from meatspace into the cyberworld. But now, I’m thinking, maybe it’s not just me. Says William McGeveran at Info/Law: [...]

Also of note is apparently Longrange will be doing a performance in Second Life! Nick Smith + Phil Hartnoll, yes, of legendary techno duo Orbital. I haven't confirmed this personally yet but am going to learn more.

I would be terribly pleased to see Wu-Tang Clan perform in SL--I think they'd really enjoy what we have in here, to say the least.

It looks like another 80s star -- Suzanne Vega -- did an in-world concert, too. This clearly balances out the Duran Duran connection, since Suzanne Vega is perpetually cool.
