Where Can Study Abroad Take You? Information Session on Semester Abroad and the HLS-University of Cambridge Joint J.D.-LL.M. Degree

The Semester Abroad program is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in a foreign legal culture and to receive a semester of ungraded credit towards the Harvard J.D. degree for study at a law school overseas. 2L and 3L students can apply to study at one of 11 exchange partner schools, or for an independent semester abroad at another accredited law school.

The HLS-University of Cambridge Joint Degree program is an incredible opportunity to spend a year at one of the world’s oldest and most distinguished universities. This program may be of particular benefit to students interested in public or private international law, British law or European Union law, or in pursuing an academic career. Students who successfully complete program requirements earn a Harvard J.D. degree and a Cambridge LL.M. in a total of three-and-a-half years.

Come learn more about these programs from HLS students who have studied abroad. Lunch will be served.

Application Deadline for HLS-Cambridge J.D./LL.M. Joint Degree Program: January 10, 2014

The Harvard Law School and the University of Cambridge J.D./LL.M.
Joint Degree Program provides an efficient avenue to earn two
degrees by enabling Harvard J.D. candidates to earn a Cambridge
LL.M. and a Harvard J.D. in a total of three-and-a-half years.

Up to six Harvard 2Ls are selected annually to spend their 3L year
reading for the LL.M. degree in Cambridge, England. The deadline to apply for study at Cambridge in the 2014-2015 academic year is
Friday, January 10, 2014.

Further information about the program, eligibility, and application requirements can be found at: www.law.harvard.edu/ils

Interested in the HLS-University of Cambridge joint degree program? Application deadline is January 9.

A reminder that Wednesday, January 9, 2013 is the deadline for current 2Ls to apply to spend the 2012-2013 academic year at the University of Cambridge, under the HLS-Cambridge joint degree program.

Students selected for the program spend their 3L year in Cambridge and are eligible to receive the Cambridge LL.M. at the end of the year upon successfully completing all LL.M. degree requirements.  Students also simultaneously receive a semester’s credit toward their HLS J.D. This means that with one additional semester back at Harvard after their Cambridge study (i.e., a total of 3.5 academic years), they will have earned both a Harvard J.D. and a Cambridge LL.M.  The HLS students are the only LL.M. students at Cambridge who are not required to have a J.D. or equivalent degree prior to enrollment.
