New Prime Minister Appoints 1984 Perpetrators as Ministers

Two perpetrators of the 1984 carnage against Sikhs have been given ministerial positions in the new government formed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.  Kamal Nath, accused of leading the mob that attacked and destroyed Gurudwara Rakab Ganj and burned alive several Sikhs inside, is now a member of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet.  He will serve as Commerce and Industry Minister.

Jagdish Tytler, whose nomination as a Congress candidate led to protests by survivors of the 1984 pogroms, is now a Minister of State for NRI Affairs.  Read the 1984 section of the blog for Nanavati commission steps taken in regards to Tytler and Kamal Nath.  The Nanavati Commission issued section 8B notices against both Nath and Tytler.

THE respectable thing for these two men to do would be to resign immediately and contend the notice served to them by the courts. If not, how can they serve their appointed offices with any degree of democratic legitimacy?
