Term of Nanavati Commission into 1984 Pogroms Extended
The central government extended the term of the Nanavati Commission’s inquiry into the 1984 pogroms against Sikhs. The Commission’s term was set to expire on August 2, 2004, but was extended for the seventh time. It will now function until November 2, 2004.
Last week, the Gujarat government also extended the scope of the Nanavati Commission’s inquiry into the Godhra train carnage and the Gujarat pogroms against Muslims in 2002. This inquiry’s term concludes in December 2004.
