Virk’s charge sheet submitted to High Court
The government has submitted the charge sheet and service book of SS Virk, Punjab Director General of Police, to the High Court. The court had requested the record because of a petition filed by Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann. His petition challenges the appointment of SS Virk to the post of Punjab Director General of Police on the grounds that a charge-sheeted officer cannot be appointed. Mann has also sought the relocation of Virk to his parent state of Maharashtra.
The charge sheet was issued against Virk in 2004 for his refusal to leave Punjab when his term of deputation ended. However, the government withdrew the charge sheet just before his appointment to the Director General of Police position.
