Jim Moore’s blog: Innovation, Strategy, Public Policy

Shoshana Zuboff, etc.

Lots out there on the web that is interesting.  I recommend Shoshana Zuboff’s piece
on “Narcisistic organizations” (which has already been pointed to
approvingly by Halley Suitt and disparagingly by Glenn Reynolds).  Shoshana’s description sure sounds like dysfunctional organizations I’ve been in.

We could use the inverse of the narcisistic organization as a template for learning organizations.

Note (in the inverse of the narcisistic organization) the
recommendation to listen to women customers–because they often get it at a
deeper level.

Note (also in the inverse) the recommendation that you remember that you inside the
company do not create the value alone, nor is the product the center of
value.  The customers create most of the value, with their uses of
the product.  For example, even economies of scale–one of the
simplest forms of economic value–are made possible by the existence of
a large market of many customers.  Without those customers, no
scale.

BTW I really like Halley’s review of Tom Wolf’s talk about “freedom from religion.”

BTW Glenn Reynolds points to a number of bloggers exploring the Bush deserter charge…
