Of course the most important development is that Colin Powell is going to visit the area the middle of next week, at the same time that Kofi Annan will also […]

Sometimes, as they say, you just can’t make this stuff up. Here is a BBC story, published yesterday, entitled “Annan seeks to evade Sudan blame.”
I really don’t know whether Kofi Annan can do more about Sudan. I’m not close to his office. But I note that the author of this BBC report seems to think […]

Rajan Rishyakaran has put together a very powerful annotated list of links on the genocide in Darfur, that I suggest you read and even consider copying to friends. Rajan
has created something that is better than the sum of its parts. His
piece conveys a compelling, disturbing narrative–and his anger and
passion show through.
Also, Ingrid Jones has written […]

have been reporting a running summary of the imploding conditions in
Sudan, in combination with UN inaction and increasingly likely US and
UK action. I’m surprised not to see more comment on these
stories.
First, in the past week both the US and UK governments have […]

The US government appears to be considering near-term military
intervention in Sudan. Intervention could range from sending in
troops to protect refugee camps and aid convoys, to enforcing a
no-fly-zone in order to prevent the Sudanese government from continuing
to bomb villages and camps.
Essentially, the administration appears to have concluded that the
United Nations cannot act coherently or boldly, that […]
