OPML Workstation eats own dogfood!
I decided to make an introductory presentation using Google Video and OPML. Click here to view the mashup!
The good news? The combo of OPML and Video rocks!
More good news? Making this site was one of the most fun and easiest things I have done in blogging..
The mashup recipe
I. Cook up some simple Video
I made some short videos with my trusty (old, 3.2 megapixel) Cannon Elph, AVI files mostly. The first video I made was only 18 seconds short,
and was done in the middle of the night. I am whispering because I
don’t want to wake the house up. What I love is that the sound quality
is good on this video, and the image color is warm, and–heck–it only
took 18 seconds to make!
I uploaded files to Google Video. Fast and free.
This got kind of addictive, and I started experimenting with more
videos. The best one’s I didn’t edit–though I did mess around with
Microsoft Movie Maker, ’cause I had it at hand. This future-oriented video on “Why OPML?” (one minute) kind of made me look like a clown, so I used Movie Maker to cut out the worst parts.
My most cheesy video showed how to put the Buffalo Jills Cheerleader
video into an OPML mini-site. Google is still “processing” that video,
which I think means that it is has been censored.
In any case, OPML Workstation is free, and the mashup that I made of the Jills video in OPML is available here.
II. Mashup with OPML
I used Google Video’s link generator to make embedable HTML of the videos that became available for publication on Google.
I then opened up a new set of slides in OPML Workstation, and plugged in one Google Video embed per slide. Here is a three-minute how-to video. Play within a play.
Automatic hosting at OPML Workstation, with display, yields this resulting mashup, which combines video with the immense potential of OPML.
You can also display OPML/Google Video mashups with other OPML viewers..
