Christopher Lydon & BlogRadio

At last night’s blog meeting, Chris and his Web facilitator Bob Doyle gave a brief presentation about Chris’ endeavor of doing radio through a blog. Yes, there are interviews on his blog with people–interesting people. I think the thing I found particularly nifty was Bob showing us all the equipment Chris uses for the interviews–and that it all fits into a standard-sized laptop computer bag. They can take this bag almost anywhere to do on site, good quality interviews. They do interviews over the phone, too. Images of the traveling studio are available.

For those not in the know, Chris is a major radio personality. For many years, he hosted The Connection, a radio talkshow from WBUR that’s broadcast nationally and over the Internet. He’d do two one-hour segments each day with interesting and timely topics and people. I was always amazed at the diversity of his topics and how he always seemed so knowledgeable about them and the people he had on the show. How can he do it? Chris also has an incredible radio voice. I was an occasional listener, but I knew plently of other people who tuned in daily, no matter what the show was about.

The Connection still airs daily, but with a different host, Dick Gordon. I don’t listen to it as frequently now, though mostly that’s because of the topics. (At least that’s what I tell myself.)

After last night’s blog demonstration, several of us talked about blogging about Chris and his radio show. I can’t remember exactly why, though. So far, only Andrew said he would post something longer about Chris and The Connection. Maybe he’ll have it up later.

I’m still thinking, “Wow! I got to shake Christopher Lydon’s hand last night!” Which really is silly because he’s at the blog meetings almost every week.
