Need advice: Where to buy computer cables
Do you have a favorite place to buy computer equipment and cables on the Internet?
I need to buy a cable to connect my Palm Pilot to an older PowerMac with no USB ports. The previous owner of the computer managed to connect his PalmPilot (same model as mine) to this computer. I figure I can use a cable that’s DB9M to DIN8M, but I can’t seem to find one in a store. The next-to-the-last sales clerk I talked to tried hard to sell me one for a PS/2 connection, swearing that I was mistaken about the connection. When I finally convinced him that Macs don’t have PS/2 ports, he panickly admitted not knowing anything about Macs, then pointed me towards the Mac section of the store and said someone else there could help me. (Yes, a DIN8M port might look similar to a PS/2 port, but the difference in the pins makes it incompatible.) After the guy in the Mac section finished his cell phone conversation and waited on a man who walked in the room after me, he told me that no one sells those cables anymore and that if I’m lucky, I might be able to find one on the Internet.
Sooo…having checked the obvious places, like mac.com and Palm.com and some of the Mac/PC Warehouse-type sites, I’m not having much luck finding a cable available from an online store I know something about. Any suggestions or recommendations?
You know, there’s a Mac store at the Cambridgeside Galleria I keep forgetting about…maybe I’ll try to find some time to head in that direction between meetings this week…
And, yes, I’ve been to MicroCenter already and they couldn’t help me. They used to be good about Macs.

I’d say to try the Apple Store or MicroCenter (they have a mac area). You might be able to find something in one of those two places. Have you tried Googling for information on it?
