Student Newspaper Sues for Access to Campus Police Records

Harvard University’s student newspaper, The Crimson, filed a lawsuit today to try to gain access to Harvard University Police Department’s records. The students claim that since the police department’s powers come from the state, their records should be available to the public. They claim that HUPD has denied them access to the police records in the past. As part of the judgment, The Crimson hopes the court will state that HUPD’s records are public. The American Civil Liberties Union has joined the lawsuit.
