GGrrr Mac/PC Incompatibility Gripe

Okay, as some of you know, I use Macs. I usually pay one of my phone bills online through that company’s Web site. The last time I tried to pay my bill online, I encountered some heinous problems that completely prevented me from accessing my account or most of the company’s Web site. I used someone’s PC to pay my bill and send them an e-mail about the problems I encountered. Their response: “Oh, our Web site isn’t compatible with Macs.”

Their newly redesigned site doesn’t work in Netscape 4.x, 6.x, or Internet Explorer x on a Mac. It completely doesn’t work on a Mac at all. I’m not talking about pages that don’t look good or text that displays funny. I’m talking about links that go nowhere, pop-up windows that are supposed to open that don’t, and other problems that prevent me from accessing the site.

That really angers me. Surely, I’m not the only person who uses a Mac to access their Web site.

I sent them a reply asking if they have any plan to make their Web site compatible with Macs.

What’s the point of having an online account so I can view and pay my bill if they aren’t going to support the computers I use? And now, of course, I can’t even go online to change my billing preferences.

But what I don’t understand even more is why a business would purposefully design their Web site so that it doesn’t work on one platform? That seems so stupid to me.
