Michael Has Some Great Ideas for Blogging in the Medical World

No, I’m not just saying this ’cause he calls me reliable and lovely. (Don’t worry: I’m sure everything else on his blog is true.)

I read part of his discussion with Enoch Choi on Enoch’s blog about the problems doctors have with communication when several specialists are caring for the same patient. Michael also talked about how communication breaks down between patients and doctors. I thought: yeah, why not set something up for them to use as a communication tool?

I asked the ophthalmic technician who reads this blog about it. He cautioned that it might not be the best idea to open the blog to the patient and other non-medical people because people without a medical background could misinterpret some of the information, which could cause serious problems.

A blog might be a great communication tool among patients–a support group of sorts. On those lines, it’s probably more of a format change than a new concept. I remember learning about online communities for caregivers of Alzheimer’s sufferers a few years ago. Why not replace that with a blog? (Someone somewhere probably already has…)

By the way, Enoch says the medical session’s Webcast (.ram) has been archived on Tales of Hoffman. Thanks!
