Two Library Stories on NPR
National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition Sunday aired two pieces on libraries today.
One talked about Fossil, Oregon’s efforts to save their public library. Budget cuts in the town of 450 threaten to close the institution many residents value. (Imagine a place where one in four residents belongs to the library’s friends organization.)
Another talked about a new Web site from the Library of Congress called Everyday Mysteries, which a librarian started based on frequently asked questions. It’s worth listening to just for the brief discussion about whether it’s appropriate for children to use it as a “cheat sheet” for their homework assignments.
